What are safety behaviors?

In my practice I often work with individuals who experience anxiety. One of the many challenging things about anxiety, is that we might, unknowingly, do things to help maintain our anxiety, that provide us with a sense of relief in the moment. These are called Safety Behaviors. It's an important concept to reflect on, especially if you are looking to move past anxiety. In this video, Kevin Ashworth, the Clinical Director of the NW Anxiety Institute, explains what safety behaviors are and how they maintain our anxiety.
